This is where refugees bow to their ancestors. The Unification Pond, which is built in the shape of the Korean peninsula is a beautiful place to take photos! The Gondola ride carries you across the Imjin River and beyond the Civilian Control Line to give you a bird’s eye view. The course is 850m long, and each car hovers roughly 50m off the ground. Here, you will see some key artefacts such as photos, documents, and some remnants from the past. A walk through the Exhibition Hall will give you a deeper and more visual knowledge of the conflict. The gallery is comfortable and well-lit. There are many exhibits on display and some interesting facts for history buffs. You will also learn how wildlife has blossomed in the DMZ, where there is no longer human interference.

As foreigners, we had only ever seen or heard about the division of Korea through television and news reports—but standing there in person, at the very edge of one of the world’s most heavily fortified borders, was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The atmosphere was intense, and the security has definitely become stricter in recent years, which made the visit feel even more real and impactful. The MDZ tour we took with Katie was a highlight of our stay in South Korea. The day was well organised, really informative, and we got to see into the DMZ and North Korea, bringing home the history, the challenges faced by the south, and the families split apart, along with their hopes for reunification. If you are considering doing it, I'd say it's well worth it to get a real understanding of the war and how the continued repercussions of it affect the country.

The guide was nice and did some jokes but I felt pressured to find the jokes funny. The tour itself was interesting and informative. When we drove to the third tunnel the guide told us that if we have anxieties or heart diseases we are not able to visit the tunnel. It would be great to have these information before you book the ticket. I think the group was a bit big - an info about the size of the group would be great.

The guide was nice and did some jokes but I felt pressured to find the jokes funny. The tour itself was interesting and informative. When we drove to the third tunnel the guide told us that if we have anxieties or heart diseases we are not able to visit the tunnel. It would be great to have these information before you book the ticket. I think the group was a bit big - an info about the size of the group would be great.

2nd Tunnel

This 3.5-km-long tunnel was built by North Korea for invasion purposes. Located 50–160 meters underground, it extends 1.1 km southward and 2.4 km northward, but only 500 meters is open to tourists.
