The Gondola ride carries you across the Imjin River and beyond the Civilian Control Line to give you a bird’s eye view. The course is 850m long, and each car hovers roughly 50m off the ground. As foreigners, we had only ever seen or heard about the division of Korea through television and news reports—but standing there in person, at the very edge of one of the world’s most heavily fortified borders, was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The atmosphere was intense, and the security has definitely become stricter in recent years, which made the visit feel even more real and impactful. Despite the tight regulations, our tour guide, Sadie, was absolutely amazing—knowledgeable, engaging, and incredibly helpful throughout the entire trip.
